In an interdisciplinary research, experts from the University and the Conicet look for natural “enemies” of the popular pampas grass. The plant is native of Argentina’s pampas and was taken to New Zealand, ten thousand kilometers away from here, with decorative purposes. It became a plague in the island, impossible of fight it with natural methods.

Desde 1991 el territorio argentino sufre el avance de la haematobia irritans o “mosca de los cuernos”, un insecto que se posa sobre los bovinos, se alimenta de su sangre y puede generar una pérdida de producción de hasta el 20%. Los especialistas descubrieron que la plaga deposita sus huevos en el estiércol, y otro insecto, llamado “escarabajo estercolero”, entierra estos desechos, llevando bajo tierra a los estadios juveniles de la mosca. Según los especialistas, estos beneficios que presenta el escarabajo hay que tenerlos en cuenta "a la hora de establecer una estrategia para repeler el insecto en pos de una mejor producción".
José Rolando Granada es investigador de la Comisión Nacional de Energía Atómica y del CONICET, y profesor titular en el Instituto Balseiro. En una disertación realizada en la UNaF manifestó que el conocimiento científico constituye “un bien público, no privatizable o comerciable, y por tanto imposible de ser financiado por la vía del mercado”. En la charla también se explayó sobre las consecuencias del atraso tecnológico y en ese sentido calificó como "brutal" la brecha entre las sociedades .
