Mathematical Model which Controls Algae in Water Mirrors

It permits to simulate strategies and represent the algae dynamics, of the nutrients and other components to preserve the water quality. The algae proliferation can cause harmful effects in humans, as well as in animals. That is why in the studied case -a reservoir which provides water to various cities in Buenos Aires- they propose, among other strategies, to take out fishes to keep the balance. The model is a system applicable to any source of water.

A Patagonic Bacterium to Degrade Contaminating Hydrocarbons

A Patagonic bacterium of the genre Rhodococcus accumulates oils departing from organic waste and it is capable of degrading hydrocarbons. This was determined by a team of researchers, after that in INDEAR, the first genomic platform of the country, its genetic material was decoded. The information obtained will permit to develop bioremediation methods of contaminated soils, apart from the production of biodiesel at great scale and other products of biotechnological use.

The Effects of Chronic Stress in Gestation Period

A study analyzed pregnant animals submitted to chronic stress and determined that the neurochemical and behavioral effects it causes in the babies are irreversible. Besides, it was established that the stress during gestation generates a depressive syndrome and that the depth of the alterations in the babies, such as for example the deterioration in the motor activity is directly related with the degree of intensity of the stress during the pre-natal period.

UNNE: Identification of Gastric Diseases by Means of DNA

A research of the National North-East University could perfect a technique of a disease�s DNA extraction caused by Helicobacter pylori from gastric biopsies in order to use it to typify the genes of this bacterium which causes gastritis, ulcers and carcinomas. Great part of the population has them, although it manifests in only a 30% of the affected people. The technique developed permits to eliminate the bacterium and stop the evolution of the disease.

Sexual Education in Schools: Give the First Step

Contraception, sexual transmission diseases prevention and sexual abuse detection form part of the questions made by teenagers about sexuality in schools. These questions not always have the adequate answer. Prejudices and lack of training about the approach to the topic prevent teachers to offer useful and correct information. This situation motivated a graduate student from the School of Social Work to carry out a project in a High School in C�rdoba to treat the topic in the classrooms. Through the work with teachers and parents the institution will make a content plan becoming one of the first schools in applying the national Law 26,150 �National Program of Integral Sexual Education� approved in 2006.

Tanztheater Wuppertal, su compa��a, fue una de las pioneras en ser compuesta por artistas de todo el mundo, obedeciendo al manifiesto inter�s de Bausch por la diversidad cultural.

Un proyecto para mejorar la producci�n de carne caprina

En base a un convenio de cooperaci�n interinstitucional del que participa la UNaF, se lleva a cabo un proyecto que tiene entre sus objetivos incrementar el nivel de producci�n de carne caprina en Formosa y generar excedentes para la venta. El punto de partida es que la explotaci�n en la zona cuenta con una gran difusi�n en el sector pecuario y es parte de la formaci�n cultural de los productores ganaderos. De este modo se prev� aumentar los ingresos de la familia rural y formar recursos humanos de la Universidad. Ya se realizaron visitas y encuestas a productores de diversas regiones de la provincia que permitieron definir sus perfiles.

Investigadores del Laboratorio de Ingenier�a en Rehabilitaci�n e Investigaciones Neuromusculares y Sensoriales de la UNER trabajan en la creaci�n de una Plataforma para simulaci�n de aplicaciones rob�ticas de sistemas Interfaces Cerebro Computadora. Estos sistemas permiten establecer un canal de comunicaci�n entre el cerebro y un ordenador, sin necesidad de otra v�a natural como por ejemplo, m�sculos o actividad en nervios perif�ricos. El proyecto es in�dito en el pa�s y se desarrolla en colaboraci�n con profesionales de la UNLP.

Investigadores de la Universidad Nacional del Comahue desarrollaron un software a trav�s del que se busca mejorar la eficacia de la educaci�n estad�stica en escuelas y universidades. Bajo la consigna de �aprender experimentando�, el desarrollo fue creado con una estructura modular y un entorno de navegaci�n accesible, y es adaptable seg�n los conocimientos previos del usuario. El software �Estad�stica aplicada� constituye un aporte en la construcci�n del aprendizaje significativo, dado que el protagonismo le corresponde al alumno.

Algas en agua de consumo: acci�n humana y falta de manejo

Un estudio de la UNS y el Conicet analiz� el surgimiento de algas en uno de los mayores reservorios de agua potable del sudoeste bonaerense, el embalse Paso de las Piedras. La propuesta fue el manejo eficiente de problemas causados por el aporte de nutrientes inorg�nicos (conocido como �eutrofizaci�n�) en ese ambiente acu�tico. El modelo, novedoso a nivel mundial, fue premiado en Francia y gener� herramientas para la remediaci�n de aguas de lagos y embalses.
